this started out as a 24-hour album project, but we got pooped after 16, so we got together a few more times after that to fix things up. maybe it was like 30 hours total.

we started the day by coming up with ways to make songs and song topics and put them in a gourd and a paper bag, respectively; also, respectfully. we drew from either or both whenever inspiration was needed.

for example, in track 5, 'a baby bird flies for the first time', every instrument is played simultaneously by both jake and rob (i.e., one person fingering the chords and the other strumming, one person blowing on a trumpet and the other moving the keys, etc).

track 6, シュウバップ ('shoo-bop'), is about a garbage man falling in love with someone on his route. track 9 'fires out' was meant to use mostly quiet instruments. and guess what, track 8 is a sea chanty! about lovers who enter caves for ten years and then remeet at a dairy queen. so on and so forth.
